Hand + Ember: What's in a name?

Hand + Ember: What's in a name? - Hand and Ember

When I was thinking of how H+E would take shape, I asked myself what it symbolizes in its most distilled form. Yes, we sell goods for the home. But the driving force behind this project is a celebration of human ingenuity: how we shape matter to create objects, and why.

The human hand is the original tool. Most of us are born with them. Hands can weave, knead incense dough, dip fabric in a dye bath, make gestures of connection and expression. And paired with fire - which transforms, gives us heat, turns soil into a pot, water into gas, incense into smoke - it can do incredible things. The hand and the ember.

These two tools are basic but quite powerful, because not only can they transform, move, and create, but they can also destroy.

So inherent in the brand is a sort of provocation, an invitation if you will, for us to use our tools with intention. In service of balance, creativity, transformation, and everyday care for others and our living spaces.
