About Us

Some things are easy to forget while others live beside us for years. Maybe it's how we found them (or how they found us), how their surface has changed with years of use, or a memory of a meal they reignite in our mind.

Hand + Ember is one person in Los Angeles and a network of workshops, dyers, weavers, shops, and vintage dealers across Bali, Java, and Borneo. We design, source, and make in small batches from natural materials, with people who have worked them for years. The first collection mixes vintage and new pieces: fragrant vetiver root, charred mango wood, old terracotta, cotton dyed by hand with indigo and mahogany leaf.

Material, process, and daily use overlap in the imperfect thing that's exactly right.
