About Us

Some things are easy to forget, but others live beside us for decades. Maybe it's where we found them, how they have changed with repeated touch over time, or the meals they remind us of.

Hand + Ember is an independent design studio based in LA. We source, design, and make in small batches, using natural materials working with artisans, workshops, and collectors in Bali, Java, and Borneo. We love materials like fragrant vetiver root, charred mango wood, old terracotta, cotton dyed by hand with plants like indigo leaf.

We are drawn to the overlap of material, process, and daily ritual, and how those come to be in the imperfect thing that turns out to be exactly right.
